So far 250 bird species have
been identified and noted to be breeding, feeding, roosting, moulting or
wintering in the Oostvaardersplassen.

 The
area is of international importance to more than 29 endangered species.
Often more than 50% of the Spoonbills breeding within Holland are found
in the Oostvaardersplassen. An important part of the total North- and
West European populations of several bird species spend time within the
Oostvaardersplassen. Cormorants have succeeded to thrive here and holds
one of the largest colonies in Western Europe.

Birdwatching in the
Oostvaarderplassen comes with suprises. For example, a Black Vulture
stayed here for a couple of months in 2005.
Besides birds, you have a
great chance of seeing foxes, konik, deer and Heck cattle.
